Frequently Asked Questions
What is a doula?
A doula is a non-medical support person who focuses primarily on the comfort and emotional well-being of the laboring mother. Since "doula" is not a regulated term, it can look different depending on the individual.
Here’s what I bring as your birth doula:
Setting up your birth space
Tidying up as needed
Helping your husband understand and meet your needs
Emotional and spiritual support
Counterpressure and labor positions
Offering hydration and food
Prayer and companionship
A calm, encouraging presence
Most of all, I want to be a close friend who walks with you through labor—someone you can open up to and feel completely supported by.
Do I really need a doula if I’m having a home birth?
That’s entirely up to you and your husband! But here are a few questions to consider:
Is this your first birth or your first natural birth?
Have you experienced long labors before?
Would an extra set of hands be helpful for setup (birth pool, warm towels, bed prep, etc.)?
Would it bring peace to have someone solely dedicated to your comfort?
Could your husband benefit from support in knowing how best to help you?
Do you want someone to walk with you through birth and postpartum preparation?
Do you value nourishing food and want a highly nutritious first postpartum meal?
If you answered “yes” to any of these, having a doula at your home birth could be a wonderful choice.
Why do all of your packages include food?
Nutrition is key to a smooth recovery, but it’s often one of the hardest things to plan for as a new mama. I love being able to take that burden off your plate.
When I arrive at your birth, I bring more than labor support—I bring nourishment. You’ll receive:
A homemade electrolyte drink
Healing bone broth
Fresh homemade sourdough bread
A soup or congee for postpartum (inspired by The First Forty Days) (Included in the Abundance package)
If you want to dive deeper into the value or postpartum nutrition or get ideas for your own postpartum meal preparation I highly recommend reading the book The First Forty Days.
What areas do you serve?
I serve the entire Treasure Valley, including:
Boise, Meridian, Kuna, Nampa, Caldwell, Middleton, Star, and Mountain Home.
If you're outside these areas and feel drawn to my care, reach out—we may be able to make it work!
Can you walk me through what a postpartum visit might look like?
Imagine it’s three days after your birth, and you’re feeling like you could use a little extra support. You send me a quick text, and I arrive at your home around 9 AM.
I come up to your room, and we chat for a few minutes about your birth experience. You mention feeling uncomfortable from a tear, so I suggest an herbal sitz bath to help with healing, and you’re open to trying it. While I steep the herbs downstairs, I offer to hold your baby so you can fully relax in the warm bath. You agree, and I help get you settled in.
While you soak, I care for your little one, tidy up a few dishes, fill up your water bottle, and refresh your bed so it’s cozy when you return. Once you’re finished, I help you out of the bath and get you settled back in to rest with your baby.
Before I leave, I check in with your husband about dinner plans. Since your meal train covered tonight’s dinner, I place the nourishing meal I brought in your freezer for whenever you need it. I finish up my visit by folding some laundry, ensuring your home feels a little lighter before I go.
Each postpartum visit is tailored to your needs in the moment, providing both practical and emotional support so you can focus on resting, healing, and bonding with your baby.
What is an example of a soup or congee included in your deluxe nutrition package?
Each meal serves four people, making it perfect for the whole family to enjoy or for mom to have nourishing leftovers throughout the week. Your package also includes sourdough bread that will go right alongside the soup.
The main dish will be broth-based, high in protein, and easy to digest—designed to support postpartum healing and replenish your body. Some examples include:
Chicken & Wild Rice Soup
Chicken Ginger Congee
Beef Stew
Beef & Lentil Soup
These meals are crafted with love to provide warmth, nourishment, and comfort during your postpartum journey. All soups and congees offered are inspired by The First Forty Days book
